On Sunday, February 3, 2008, the Junior Girls of Suffolk County
New York led the procession of the Mass in honor of St. Brigid of
Ireland. The Mass was celebrated at the beautiful Chapel of the Sacred
Heart on the grounds of the St. Joseph’s Convent in Brentwood Long
Island.
The Mass was celebrated by Rev. Sean Gann, of Christ The King parish in
Commack NY. Fr. Sean also elaborated on his Irish ancestry and the role
of St. Brigid.
All the Divisions of Suffolk County were represented at the crowded
Mass. In attendance were Officers of the Divisions of both L.A.O.H and
A.O.H., and most importantly by the future of our order, the
“Junior
Girls of Suffolk County”.
Also in attendance were; National L.A.O.H. Treasurer Margaret Hennessy;
N.Y. L.A.O.H. State Officers; State Chaplin, Sr. Phylis O’Dowd OP, and
President, Kathy Conway.
The Mass was sung by the incredible Hibernian Festival singers who can
only be described as angelic. The entrance and exit procession was led
by the Roisin Dubh Irish Pipe Band from Division 7, Our Lady of Knock,
East Islip N.Y.
After the Mass, at a Brunch held at Division 2, St. Patrick’s Division,
in Babylon New York, eight women, each representing one of the LAOH
Divisions in Suffolk, were presented the St. Brigid Award for their
dedication and immense contributions to the Church and their community.

Military Donation Gift Drive
MILITARY COLLECTION
On Sunday, January 20,
2008 , and Wednesday, April 23, 2008, numerous volunteers showed up at the Division 7, Hibernian Hall in
East Islip to assist in the packaging of items. These items will be
shipped to various servicemen and women serving in Iraq.
The items collected were; Wipes and Wet Ones, Playing Cards, Crossword
Puzzles, Hand held games, Jam or Jelly in Plastic Jars, Peanut Butter in
Plastic Jars, Foot powder, Crackers, Writing paper and pens, Sealed
Chapstick, Trail Mix, Disposable Cameras, Oreo Cookies in Plastic
Containers, Chocolate Chips in Plastic Containers, Beefy Jerky, 'Power
Bars' and
Rosaries.
Claudia Troiano and Gerri Muligan, who chaired the event remarked, …”I
want to thank you all for a fabulous turnout today in support of our
troops! It was awesome to see so many people, so many ages, working
together.
We sent out to 56 soldiers, plus an extra 10 boxes to each of the
lieutenants with extra to share with their units. We did deplete most of
our inventory and will need to replenish for the next one, with will be
the second week of March. Please note that we will have to do some fund
rising to raise money for postage also. Special thanks to the Ancient
Order of Hibernians...for their generous contributions, the use of the
facility, and the extra people to help! They have generously offered to
store our leftover inventory and let us conduct our next ‘packout’
there. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
Claudia also provided a list of soldiers in case anyone would like to
write to them. They love hearing from home. However she cautioned that,
…”Please tell your children not to expect letters back. Sometimes it
happens, but not often.”
The next group of soldiers will probably be some of our own, those who
recently left from Brentwood.
She reminded everyone to keep them all in your prayers. |

WARNING - MOVIE - "THE
GOLDEN COMPASS"
As we approach this holiday season you
should be aware of and make your members aware of this new attack on our
faith. On December 7th there is the movie being released called THE
GOLDEN COMPASS staring Nicole Kidman. This movie is primarily advertised
for our children to see. It was written by none other than Philip
Pullman an Englishman that is an avowed atheist!! The fear is that after
seeing this movie, that parents will go out and buy the other books in
this trilogy as Christmas gifts. What is disturbing is that these books
which the movie is the first one of the trilogy series called THE DARK
MATERIALS also written by Philip Pullman. In an interview with Al Roker
on the “Today” show November 2nd Roker mentioned that the Catholic
League is charging that Pullman is selling “atheism to kids”, Pullmans
response was: “Well, you know I always mistrust people that tell us how
we should understand something. They know better than we do what the
book means or what this means and how we should read it, and whether we
should read it or not. I don’t think that’s democratic. I prefer to
trust the reader. I prefer to trust what I call the democracy of
reading. Then everybody has the right to form their own opinion, and
read what they like, and come to their own conclusion about it. So I
trust the reader.”
The Catholic League had a great response, but the matter at hand about
this movie is that it starts out in a very light hearted manner, but the
main goal is to teach our children that there is NO GOD!! In the movie
there are some very strange things, and at the end a boy & girl are
supposed to be depicting Adam & Eve, and then they KILL GOD!!
My only hope as your Catholic Action Chairman is that we get this
message out in time for all our Brothers to see, and make the decision
not to let their children see it. By the way there is already plans if
this movie does well at the box office to go on to the next movie in
this trilogy.
This we must not let happen to our children,
our faith is already under attack by these atheists. But to target the
most vulnerable section of our society, the children.

BLOCK
PARTY
On Saturday July 9, 2005,
Division 7 hosted a "Block Party" for the delegates of the New York State
Convention.
Entertainment in the street was
supplied by Jerry Finley, along with Irish step dancing
performed by dancers from the Hunt School of Dance. Additionally our own
Roisin Dubh Pipe Band performed as well.
All the delegates were unanimous
in that not only did they have a great time but were overwhelmed by the
appearance of the statue of Our Lady of Knock.
Division 7 members who worked on
providing the support for this occasion should be proud of their
accomplishment.
