Larry Wolff
recently found at a garage sale a 1978 edition of “Old Brooklyn in Early
Photographs 1865 – 1929”
While browsing
through the pages he noticed a familiar picture. One that was always on
his grandmother’s dresser. After confirming that the photo in the book
and the one on the dresser were the same he made some family inquires.
The snappy looking gentlemen in the photo turned out to be his
Great-Grandfather, Peter Meehan, born 1859 and born in the County of
Leithrim.
He was the driver
of the last horse drawn delivery wagon in Brooklyn NY. Peter Meehan
delivered residential packages for the “Namm Store” located at Fulton
and Hoyt Streets.
The
building itself, where this photo was taken, was the Brooklyn landmark
“Alhambra Apartment House” located at Nostrand Ave between Macon and
Halsey Street.
